The ideal candidates for deep neck contouring are women and men concerned with their neck, chin, and jawline area. You should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome. Your surgeon will assess your specific situation to determine if deep neck contouring is right for you.
It is important to note that many patients in their mid-to-late 50s and older who are looking to improve their neck may not be good candidates for deep neck contouring alone. At this age, the signs of aging are usually better addressed with a facelift, which will improve sagging skin and muscle in the lower face. This allows for a more natural result.
How Much Does a Deep Neck Contouring Procedure Cost in Rochester, NY?
The cost of deep neck contouring varies, depending on your specific needs and goals. All prices quoted from the Quatela Center are all-inclusive and include pre- and post-operative appointments, surgeon’s fees, surgery center fees, and anesthesia costs. For more information, see our page on Plastic Surgery Costs.
Your Deep Neck Contouring Consultation
The consultation is an important part of the process, giving you a chance to get to know your surgeon and ask questions about the procedure. Your surgeon will answer your questions about the procedure, discuss your aesthetic goals, address any concerns you might have, and explain the benefits and side effects of the procedure. Your medical history, previous surgeries, present medical conditions, and any current medications and supplements you are taking will be discussed with a nurse as well.
Your surgeon will examine the area of your neck and chin that you are concerned with and look at the amount of fat to be removed and the laxity of your skin. A chin implant may also be recommended to create a balanced appearance. There are multiple options for addressing the neck and chin area, which will be discussed so that you can weigh the benefits and advantages of each. Using his/her experience and expertise in facial contouring and rejuvenation, your facial plastic surgeon will recommend the procedure that will work best for you.
Your Deep Neck Contouring Procedure
The procedures that are commonly used to create a comprehensive treatment plan are:
Neck lift (platysmaplasty) – tightens the neck muscles
Neck liposuction – removes fat cells to slim a double chin and smooth the neck
Chin augmentation – utilizes an implant to strengthen the look of the chin, giving it more definition
Submandibular gland excision – removes the bulky part of the gland to create a more defined jawline
Subplatysmal fat excision – addresses fat underneath the platysma muscle that cannot be removed with simple liposuction
Deep neck contouring surgeries are performed at the Lindsay House Surgery Center using a local anesthetic with IV sedation. During the procedure, your surgeon will place small incisions under the chin (within the submental crease) and right behind either earlobe. If a chin implant is being used, it will be inserted through a small incision underneath the chin and secured to the bone for stability and long-lasting results. The procedure takes about 1 to 3 hours depending on the amount of fatty tissue removed, muscle tightening, and contouring necessary to create natural-looking results. Your surgeon then applies a large gauze pressure dressing that you need to wear the first night after surgery. It’s removed at your post-operative appointment the next morning.
What Can I Expect After Deep Neck Contouring Surgery?
A bandage is worn at all times for the first 5 days. After that, you’ll need to wear it while sleeping for an additional 7 days. Your surgeon removes sutures from the chin on the fifth day after surgery and ear sutures, if needed, on day 7. Expect some bruising and swelling, which may take 2 to 3 weeks to fully resolve. Any discomfort you may experience can be managed with pain medication, cold compresses applied as directed, and rest.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From Deep Neck Contouring?
The recovery from deep neck contouring is very straightforward, lasting 1 to 3 weeks in most cases; however, individual experiences vary. Patients should expect some swelling, mild discomfort, and bruising around the chin and lower face. Mild swelling can last for several months. Following your surgeon’s instructions for proper aftercare is the key to your successful and quick recovery. Most patients are able to return to work within 1 week following surgery, depending on the nature of their job. If needed, you can camouflage any residual bruising with makeup. Our surgeons advise patients to postpone exercising for 3 weeks after surgery.
