Lips are everything these days. There is a major emphasis being placed on them, and it’s not just about the hottest summer shades, it’s also the size. Full lips are in, and they aren’t going away anytime soon. We have seen a recent surge of patients seeking out full (yet natural) lips, and we just love the results. With new injectable fillers joining the market and an abundance of lipstick products and colors, we’re here to talk about what’s what when it comes to lips.
I am interested in enhancing the size of my lips. Is a lip augmentation procedure for me?
Lip augmentation is a procedure to enhance the size and/or shape of your lips. It gives a natural plump to lips while improving symmetry and eliminating lip lines. This can be done surgically through the use of an implant or fat grafts, or non-surgically with the use of injectable fillers. Injectable fillers that are most commonly used for lips include Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Restylane® Silk.
Some patients choose to try fillers first and once they know how they want their lips to look, they may then opt for more permanent solutions for lip augmentation. The beauty of injectable fillers is that the results are immediate and there is no downtime associated with the procedure. However, fillers will not permanently plump your pout. Surgery does come with some downtime and initial swelling and bruising, however the results will be semi-permanent or permanent depending on the method used.
In deciding if lip augmentation is right for you, first decide what result you are specifically looking for. At your personal consultation, you can go over the options available to you with the doctor and decide which procedure is best for you.
I love the size and shape of my lips, but how can I make them stand out?
New lip color products are popping up everywhere. Lip oils, the hot new product for summer lips, marry the recent trend of matte colors with the timeless style of gloss, giving color and hydration in one effortless sweep of the applicator. They are a perfect way to show off your lips by highlighting moisture and shine. No matter your preference on matte vs. gloss, read on for expert tips on how to wear your lips well.
- Choosing a shade: Complement your skin tone, not your clothes. If you’re looking to make a bold statement, punch up your lip color while minimizing prints and colors in your outfit. Just remember, when using ultra-bold colors on your lips, such as red, tone down your eye makeup a little to balance everything out.
- Using lip liner: Choose a color that complements your lipstick. The dark liner with light lipstick look is out. Liner we love: Jane Iredale lip liner in Nude. Pair it with PureGloss® Lip Gloss in Soft Peach for a look that’s beautiful for every day.
- To keep your color lasting longer: Apply a thin layer of Jane Iredale Pressed Powder on your lips, line your lips, and then apply your favorite lip color. Top with a little gloss for sexy lips that last. –Kelly, Q Med Spa Makeup Artist
