Hunger has no boundaries. It affects millions of children, seniors and households in communities across the country. Alarming new numbers were recently released about the number of people who go hungry in Rochester and its surrounding counties. They show that more than 150,000 people in our ten-county region, including one in five children, are considered “food insecure;” meaning they have limited or uncertain access to adequate nutritious food. Foodlink offers a suite of food access programs to provide a host of access points to nutritious and affordable food to underserved communities in Monroe, Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties and have been doing so for the last 40 years. Foodlink’s mission is to leverage the power of food to end hunger and build healthier communities.
Foodlink’s Healthy Meals is a program that both Dr. Vito Quatela and Dr. William Koenig of the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery are honored to support. Both Dr. Quatela and Dr. Koenig have a passion for helping children in need and are proud to be able to make a difference in the lives of so many both internationally through the HUGS Foundation, Inc. and locally through the Healthy Meals program. How children eat today can have a huge impact on their health throughout adolescence and adulthood. Food containing important nutrients helps children grow, and is essential for their mental and physical development. Combined with physical activity, diet can help individuals reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce their risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote overall health. Healthy nutrition is also important in maintaining healthy skin. The real secret to beauty is no secret at all. Eating vitamin-packed healthy foods will provide the skin with its daily nutritional needs to stay healthy and young. Starting with healthy nourishment while young is the best way to ensure a beautiful, youthful face and body, inside and out.
