vcq picDr. Vito Quatela is a world renowned facial plastic surgeon, who has been practicing for over 27 years.  He is the founder of the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery, Q the Medical Spa at Lindsay House, and the Quatela Center for Hair Restoration.  Here are ten facts that you may or may not know about our respected facial plastic surgeon:

  1. Dual board certification means that Dr. Quatela has completed education and training for both facial plastic surgery (certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) and otolaryngology (certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery). He also served as the past president of the AAFPRS (American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) in 2007, a high honor for facial plastic surgeons who reflect the Academy in their surgical excellence and high quality of patient care.
  2. Dr. Quatela’s overall mission is to improve people’s lives by aesthetically enhancing their appearance and increasing their confidence. A lot of patients will ask what signs of aging in their face or facial structure is most bothersome to him, however he is most interested in what each patient is concerned with because a patient’s perception of what they see in the mirror is the most important.
  3. Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is considered a challenging operation, and Dr. Quatela is known as one of the pioneers of modern rhinoplasty. Most of his years of experience have been spent perfecting his technique which allows him to achieve patient satisfaction very reliably. He is an author and educator on rhinoplasty and has taught several generations of surgeons how to be proficient.
  4. Dedicated to the training of other plastic surgeons, Dr. Quatela has conducted in excess of 100 medical lectures over his career. This has resulted in his teaching surgeons in countries all over the world including Turkey, Italy, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
  5. Serving as a preceptor for an annual AAFPRS Fellowship, Dr. Quatela trains and mentors doctors who are completing their training in plastic surgery. Each year he hosts a fellow at his practice, and has trained 20 doctors since 1995.
  6. Dr. Quatela is considered an authority on facial plastic surgery and has been quoted by popular media outlets such as W Magazine, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and ABC News.
  7. The Lindsay House, previously owned by the Lindsay family and then the Rochester Health Association, was in dramatic disrepair when Dr. Quatela purchased it in 1992. He took it upon himself to oversee all decisions in its restoration and carefully ensured that the original beauty and architecture of the home was maintained. Dr. Quatela’s passion for restoration extends into every aspect of his life, whether it is in the meticulous restoration of historic buildings or his thoughtful consideration of detail and balance in his cosmetic surgery procedures.
  8. Dr. Quatela has a love and compassion for children, especially those who cannot afford medical care and who suffer from a deformity or conditions that can be remedied through plastic surgery. One such deformity is microtia, where children are both without an ear or a portion of the ear, and another is cleft lip palate abnormalities. For this reason, Dr. Quatela formed the HUGS (Help Us Give Smiles) Foundation and currently takes three medical mission trips a year. On these trips his team of volunteer surgeons and nurses provide surgery to children, repairing cleft lips and palates and forming ears out of rib cartilage, changing their lives.
  9. Growing up in Rochester, New York, Dr. Quatela is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas and the University of Rochester.
  10. Dr. Quatela loves experiencing concerts of all musical genres and enjoys the outdoors by spending time fly fishing. He often enjoys both activities with his children.
